“For a brave future...”
Lucas Dekker is an immersive media artist based in the Netherlands, working across VR, AR, film, photography, and 3D. A multidisciplinary maker and founder of Futura Bravado, he graduated from the University of the Arts Utrecht in Image and Media Technology.
Alongside his artistic practice, Lucas works as an editor, contributing to documentaries on democracy in Africa and Dutch socio-political issues, with a focus on creating space for dialogue and reflection.
His work approaches immersive media with theatrical and cinematic sensibility, using VR as a tool to question societal norms, values, and the ways we imagine the future. Fascinated by extreme thinking like futurism and utopia, Lucas explores how visions of tomorrow reveal the assumptions and power structures of today.
Recent projects include VR Maze, a mixed-reality experience presented during Culturele Zondagen in Utrecht, and Visiting Casey, an immersive theatre work in which the audience’s identity is temporarily assumed by a virtual character.
His graduation project, Unbuilt London, was nominated for the HKU Awards. The VR experience examines an unrealised architectural plan for London, uncovering the ideologies and ambitions embedded in visions that were never built.
